CompTIA compiles the State of the Tech Workforce using data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, the U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis, Lightcast, and more. Data reflects best estimates for 2022, 2023 or the most recently available data at the time of publication. Data may fluctuate due to updates or revisions by the data supplier. The North American Industrial Classification System (NAICS) and the Standard Occupational Classification (SOC) System form the basis of how the tech industry and tech occupation workforce are defined in State of the Tech Workforce. The data covering tech industry and tech occupation employment is presented as primarily employer-level data, meaning employment at firms with payroll as defined by the Bureau of Labor Statistics. Certain segments of self-employed tech workers are also included.
